Adverse Selection of Insurance

Insurance is useful for all the people for covering for some of the needs which will occur due to unexpected incidents. But, there are many situations which is making the people not to use the insurance. One of the main cases is the adverse selection of the insurance.

Insurers often use this phrase "adverse Selection". It describes the method, where the insured decides to buy or not to buy the insurance according to the risks. These risks are not known to the insurer.

Suppose take two persons A and B. Consider A, who knows that he will buy an insurance tomorrow, but this information is not known to the insurer and he will buy a insurance and will get a good deal as the price will be in relation with the average risk of death. Suppose, conversely if we take the case of B, who thinks she will live for a long time than the average person, then insurance will not be beneficial in those cases. Which finally results in a situation that the insurance will be brought only by the high risk individuals.

Several unprofitable situations may arise for the insurers as the adverse selection may lead to end up the insurances or cancel out their renewal of the lower risks. Sometimes, this collapses the insurance market.

So, in order to avoid the above adverse selection, the insurers came up with the process called underwriting which deals with the risk selection process. In which the insurers will ask different questions and sometimes even ask the medical reports for evaluating the health of the insured who has applied for buying the insurance. According to the information of the health reports, the prices may vary.

So, underwriting is the tool by which most of the insurers avoid the adverse selection of the insurance. Hence, the advantageous selection will result because of the effective underwriting.

How Long Can One Detect the Presence of Marijuana by Using Saliva Drug Test

Marijuana is an illegal drug. This drug is used for smoking, using a pipe. By using this drug, many adverse effects like respiration problems manifest. This drug is also termed as the gateway drug for all the drugs.

Now-a-days, saliva drug testing is used tremendously because of the advantage of no tampering or adulteration. The most effective method for the usage of marijuana will be the saliva drug testing method.

When coming to the drug detection period for each and every drug will be different. One can define the detection period as the amount of the time till the test shows the positive result. This varies depending on the type of the test which is used for detecting the marijuana usage.

Marijuana contains the active component called THC component which is the main cause for all the adverse effects. This active component will be checked using the saliva drug test.

Here by using the saliva drug testing, the detection period will be between 6 to 24 hours. After the completion of the detection period the presence of marijuana or the THC component cannot be detected using the saliva drug test.

At highways, in companies and in organizations where a safety environment is needed, in those cases, this saliva drug test is used for detecting the marijuana usage. The employers of the organization, or the people who want to make their beloved or children to get tested then in those cases, saliva drug tests will give the result for the recent marijuana usage.

Know About Parts of a Barcode

Barcode is a representation of data, which can be read by barcode scanners. Barcodes are represented in the form of parallel lines and the spacings, which store information. Barcode consists of different parts, they are:

"X" Dimension: The smallest element in a bar code is known as "x" dimension. This can be narrowest bar or space in the code. The dimension can be decided not only on the space present on the document to print the code, but also on the kind of scanner and environment in which the label is scanned. For the most effective and reliable scanning, density must be lowest. It is suitable method to have all bars and spaces in integral multiples of the "x" dimension.

Resolution: Resolution of a scanner means the smallest element it can notice or scan. If the resolution of a scanner is not sufficiently high, it may not be able to read small elements in high-density bar codes. For the most reliable scanning, the resolution of scanning devices must be similar to the narrowest element of any one symbol.

Density: Density can be measured in either character per inch method or by the narrow bar size method. The character per inch density is detected by the combination of the "x" dimension and the element ratio. Narrower bars produce greater density, but they are more prone to print voids, stains, and dirt, which can influence bar width interpretation.

Element Ratio: To enable a scanner to differentiate between the wide and narrow elements, a least possible ratio is required based upon value of resolution used for printing the bar code. The width of the wide element must be minimum twice that of narrow element. Lower the element ratio, smaller the tolerance range. The most successful scanning can be achieved with a wide-to-narrow element ratio, which is near to 3:1 as possible.

Quiet Zone: Code designers established a zone, which is present right and left of a bar code and free from all printing. This quiet zone provides time to the scanner to adjust its opto-electronic measurement circuits to correctly detect the critical width of each bar in the code message and to find out the contrast between the bar and the space between each bar.
