Online Shopping

I went through the following statement while browsing through the daily happenings - “Fashion took a big step forward last year. According to one estimate, US online apparel sales (including accessories and footwear) reached $18.3 billion in 2006 and replaced computer hardware/software as the largest online retail category. Unfortunately, by another measure, the percentage of a category's total sales transacted online, apparel is lagging. Consumers still prefer buying in stores where they can touch and try on clothing items”.

This statement showed the two versions of the typical human behavior. One – Embracing the new technology and the facilities it offers to the convenience. And the other is nothing can beat the feel and tough when buying.

I wonder how Internet has unleashed the potential of the online shopping, which is becoming the more and more common these days. Unarguably, the youth recognized the ease of shopping online or the ease of product research online initially while they shop for music or the like. Later on the elder population followed the online shopping trends.

One may worry, if online shopping continues increasing the sales volume by eating away the share of brick and mortar stores what happens to them. I think it is not a point to worry, because the answer is in the first statement, nothing can replace the satisfaction got by buying with real shopping which feeling the softness of the apparel or having a trail of an i-pod.
