Childcare Responsibilities

Childcare workers work in different environments like individual care at home, or group care at day care center, private home, or pre-school. At any place, the childcare worker's job responsibilities include guaranteeing that the children are safe and are well cared for. Childcare workers should feed and nourish the children when their parents are not nearby, and organize and engage children in activities, which are appropriate to their age.

Good childcare workers must be certified in CPR and first aid as it might be required at the time of any emergency and should be able to present references. Job duties and qualifications of childcare workers vary depending on the age of the children under care. Even though childcare workers are not teachers, they will teach some fundamental skills to young children like sharing toys, bathroom procedures, and method of playing with other children. For older children, childcare workers will help with homework or ensures that children will do minor tasks.

Childcare workers are usually categorized into three different groups depending on place of work. They are private household workers, who take care of children at the children's homes, family childcare providers who take care of children in the providers’ homes, and childcare workers who work at childcare centers like head start, early head start, full-day and part-day preschool, and other early childhood programs.
