Including some foods in the diet is important to protect the individuals from having various eye diseases.

  • First food item which helps in preventing the eye related problems is raw nuts because it decreases the probability of AMD or age related macular degeneration.

  • Spinach and carrots also helps in preventing the eye problems as these contain carotenoids which help in enhancing the eyesight. Green leafy vegetables and colored fruits may affect visual performance and may prevent age-related eye diseases, according to a new study in the Journal of Food Science.
  • Commonly used herb for protecting the eye is Vaccinium myrtillus which strengthen eye capillaries, prevent eye related disease and infection.
  • Aspalathus linearis and Sutherlandia frutescens are the herbal plants which have antioxidants and assist in maintaining a healthy supply of blood, oxygen and essential nutrients to the eye.
  • Vitamin C reduces the edema in the eyes, it is present in citrus fruits and berries. Vitamin A is the other vitamin helps to maintain a healthy eyesight at all times of the day and it is present in carrots, spinach, broccoli and sweet potato.
  • Home remedies for eye care include washes made with natural ingredients such as fennel seeds, honey and cold water.
